“Obv, I booked this place because it was one of the cheapest on the island but didn’t look shabby. For just a little over 1k pesos per night, it was a pretty good deal especially considering that it was walking distance from a mall.

Owner was quick to respond to messages, and when our flight was delayed by 3hrs which pushed our arrival time to the property to about midnight, there was a lady staff that was waiting for us and showed us to our room.

I read the reviews from other visitors about how the rooms are too small and that there were plenty of issues with the bathroom. This wasn’t the case for us, though. We got the room at the top floor, the one to the right if you’re facing the property. There was ample space for my mom and I to walk around the bed. There was also medium sized closet with plenty of hangers which was nice. The bathroom, although pretty small and kind of poorly designed, was just fine too. Never had issues with water pressure our entire stay. AC wasn’t super cold, but it was enough.

Another qualm by other reviewers was the lack of direct access to the beach. This is true and was indeed a bit of a hassle. It’s about a 5-minute walk to the beach entrance. And the staff said it was Modala that had their access blocked off. But when we finally visited the beach, it all made sense. It’s very, very clean at this beach and few people were there. There also was absolutely no peddlers or other people trying to sell you a tour or trinkets since everyone has to go through a couple of guards at the entrance. They’ve also done some landscaping and cleaned a big area of the water so that there’s plenty of place to swim around without worrying about the sea grass (something you won’t see at Alona).

All in all, our stay at Homaja was great! Loved the view from the top balcony, and the staff were very accommodating to our requests and were friendly. Also very helpful – my mom’s a senior citizen, and the one guy carried her bags out to the main road when we left.

If you don’t mind the 3-min walk to the road and another few minutes to a nice beach, and you like a more laidback type of accommodation, then I definitely recommend Homaja 🙂 “
