“The hostel is located in the most beautiful part of Waikiki, close to the beach, zoo, park, and Diamond Head. The property has excellent potential, but it is not a three or four-star hotel. Unfortunately, the owners are more concerned about maximizing profits than providing a decent facility for customers. From what I gather there is no professional cleaning staff. Cleaning is done by individuals who reside at the hotel. Therefore, the cleanliness of the rooms varies tremendously and consists primarily of light sweeping. I asked for additional cleaning but didn’t receive much. I finally asked for a broom, disinfectant, and a cleaning rag. I swept the floor (moved all the clothes and luggage), washed down the walls, cleaned the fans (removied clumps of dust and dirt), mopped the floor, and disinfected the toilet. I also asked the front desk to change the shower curtain because the existing curtain had a dark ring (mildew) at the water line. There is a locker area, but it’s relatively small, so luggage ends up on the floor, which makes cleaning much more difficult. Additional shelving could be put in the locker area to accommodate luggage. There’s only one entrance and exit for residents in this and the back room. The hotel closed off the stairs on the other side of the building. The kitchen and dining areas also lack cleanliness. I asked management to wipe down the table or provide cleaner (or wet wipes) to wipe down the tables so I could eat my meal. They did finally clean the tables more often. There is no smoking in the facility, but people smoke at the front gate, including many staff and at least one manager. The smoke permeates through the rooms. The noise (e.g., music) level can be high in the dining area, making it difficult to carry a conversation. Being a person that is sensitive to loud noise and cigarette smoke, left me with few options to sit. The hostel was not ideal, but I was fortunate to have good roommates who appreciated”
